Introducing CRYOPEN
Many skin lesions can occur on the face, neck, and body, such
as moles, skin tags, warts, and other growths. While most of
these are harmless, they can still be bothersome due to their
appearance or if they become irritating by catching on clothing.
However, there is a solution called cryotherapy. This procedure
involves freezing off the skin lesions, with a device called
CRYOPEN™, which can effectively remove them.

CryoPen™ is a device that freezes the top layer of the skin using
a freezing substance, like liquid nitrogen. This substance is usually
applied using a spray pen. However, it can be applied with a
cotton wool bud for more precise treatment of areas near the
eyes.

CryoPen™ is effective for various superficial skin conditions that primarily affect the epidermis. This includes noncancerous growths like seborrheic warts, contagious lesions such as viral warts or molluscum contagiosum, and precancerous lesions like solar keratoses or Bowen’s disease.

How cold does CryoPen™get?
When using the CryoPen™, the skin temperature lowers to minus 100C for a short duration of five to 15 seconds, depending on the thickness of the lesion. During the procedure, a burning pain is experienced, which can last up to a minute as the skin thaws. While adults generally tolerate the procedure well, it needs to be better tolerated by children, especially when repeated applications are required.

Usually, the treated area forms a scab that takes about one to two weeks to heal. It’s important to note that cryotherapy can alter the texture and colour of the skin. Therefore, caution should be exercised when using cryotherapy on patients with darker skin, especially on exposed areas like the face, to avoid the risk of depigmentation.

    FAQS For CryoPen™

Cryotherapy suits individuals of all ages, skin types, and ethnicities. However, it is essential to note that individuals with certain medical conditions may not be recommended for cryotherapy. To determine your eligibility for treatment, our clinicians will conduct a thorough medical consultation and skin examination.
After undergoing cryotherapy treatment, you may experience redness and slight swelling in the treated area. In the hours following the treatment, the skin may darken slightly, and you may feel some itchiness or tenderness. Around 3-4 days after the treatment, the treated skin lesion may become darker and develop a crust. Eventually, the crusted skin will flake away over the next few weeks.

Once the lesion has fully healed, new skin will appear in the treated area. This new skin may have a pink or slightly lighter tone than your normal skin. It is crucial to protect this healing skin by applying sunblock with a minimum SPF of 50+ to areas exposed to the sun, such as the face, neck, and hands. This should be done until the area has depigmented to match your normal skin tone and has completely healed.
The entire healing time for most patients is typically 4-6 weeks, although smaller lesions may heal in less than four weeks. The healing time can vary depending on factors such as skin type and the nature of the skin lesion being treated. It is important to note that applying sunblock (SPF 50+) to sun-exposed areas like the face, neck, and hands is crucial until the area has completely healed and returned to your normal skin tone. This will help prevent hyperpigmentation and ensure optimal healing.
Specific lesions, such as large moles and skin tags in intimate areas, may require multiple Cryotherapy treatments. Warts and verrucae may also require four or more treatments. During your follow-up appointment with our clinicians, the results of the Cryotherapy treatment will be assessed to determine if additional treatment is necessary. It's important to note that any further treatments performed during review appointments are included in the initial appointment price, so there are no additional fees.
Our medical clinic, led by doctors, offers a discreet and specialised service to address delicate skin conditions in intimate areas, such as genital warts, anal skin tags, and pearly penile papules. Our medical director and clinicians perform all cryotherapy treatments. We understand that skin lesions in intimate areas can cause anxiety embarrassment and affect body confidence for many patients. That's why our doctor-led clinic within the Esteemed Royal Liver Building offers comprehensive patient care, from initial consultation to aftercare. Our clinicians are available for direct advice and support if you have any questions or concerns before or after treatment.
