ACNE
Acne is a real problem for people of various ages and
skin types. During their life, most people experience
some form of an unsightly, inconvenient acne outbreak.
There are many myths about the causes of acne,
mostly about diet and hygiene. However, neither
is accurate. Acne is usually caused by the body’s
increased production of the hormone androgen.
Androgen stimulates the sebaceous glands to produce
more oil.
The Ellipse IPL treatment treats three types of acne:
Acne vulgaris

blood vessels. They range from small telangiectasias
(small thread veins, spider naevi) to larger port wine
stains or birthmarks. They can cause significant

What is the VL555’s main focus?
TELANGIECTASIAS
Telangiectasia is a condition in which widened venules
(tiny blood vessels) cause threadlike red lines or
patterns on the skin. These patterns, or telangiectases,
form gradually and often in clusters. They’re sometimes
known as “spider veins” because of their fine and
weblike appearance.
PORT WINE STAINS
Overly dilated capillaries can cause port-wine stains.
These enlarged capillaries allow blood to collect in
them anywhere in the body, giving port-wine stains
their pinkish or purplish color.
A port-wine stain is a pink or purple birthmark on the
skin. It’s also referred to as nevus flammeus. BENIGN
VASCULAR & PIGMENTED LESSIONS
Benign vascular lesions, red in colour, are caused by
an abnormal clustering of blood vessels. Pigmented
lesions which are less widespread are clusters of
melanin in the skin and are brown in colour. While some
lesions may fade, others become more pronounced
over time. Despite using less energy, the applicator VL
555 produces better results on pigmentation and over
dilated capillaries.

Age spots and hyperpigmentation contains melanin, and diffuse redness contains haemoglobin. The melanin in the pigmented area absorbs the light, and the heat reaction effect breaks down the melanin in the keratinocytes. A photo-toxic reaction occurs in the melanin vesicles. Turning the excess melanin darker before it disappears off the skin.
Skin rejuvenation is the treatment of sun-damaged skin. The IPL laser treatment diffuses redness (high colour) and pigmented lesions such as hyperpigmentation, solar lentigines (sunspots) and freckles.
The best results are seen with clients of skin types 1-3, and skin type 4 can be treated with care. The client must avoid sun exposure 30-60 days before treatment. Sun exposure and excessive light abs can increase the risk of pain or burns. If the client has a suntan, waiting until the colour reduces may be better to achieve the best results. The Ellipse has multiple pre-programmed treatment suggestions for different skin types.
The sensation depends on the client, but it is the second strongest of all the treatments. The felt sensation rests upon the amount of melanin found within the skin. The sensation is a heat sensation – like a mild sunburn.
On average, 1-3 treatments at 4-week intervals are needed for the best results. Top-up treatments may be required in the future to maintain these results. If you are looking for the optimum collagen stimulation effect with skin rejuvenation, we recommend six treatments at 4-week intervals.
It is essential to avoid any tanning (sun, sunbed, fake tan) before and during the actual treatment period. If not, this will result in your skin absorbing more light, ultimately making the treatment much less effective. Usually, no post-treatment care is necessary. However, some patients with sensitive skin could benefit from applying some soothing aloe vera gel.
It is ALSO recommended to use an SPF 30+ daily.

Thread veins (small blood vessels near the skin’s surface) on most body parts can be treated. The most popular treatments are for superficial veins on the face, neck, and chest areas, as the treatment relies on light absorption by the blood’s haemoglobin. People with lighter skin return the best results. In fact, the lighter the skin, the more distinct the contrast between the vessel and the skin is.

Clients may notice some general redness on the face. Following the treatment, some pigmented areas may appear darker and eventually disappear.
Due to the bacteria being difficult to eradicate, you should continue using adapalene cream or gel some months after the treatment.
