CELLULITE
Cellulite
Cellulite, also known as ‘orange peel skin’, ‘cottage cheese skin’, or ‘the mattress effect’, is characterized by a dimpled appearance on the skin’s surface. It commonly affects the thighs, hips, buttocks, and stomach. Contrary to common beliefs, cellulite can develop on bodies of all sizes and is more prevalent in women than men.
Cellulite occurs when the layer of subcutaneous fat, which is natural fatty deposits beneath the skin’s surface, pushes upwards while the tissues that connect the skin to the muscle pull down, which means that even individuals with a slimmer frame can experience cellulite. However, cellulite may become more noticeable when extra weight is gained.
Although cellulite is harmless, its visible puckered or dimpled effect on the skin can cause aesthetic dissatisfaction for those affected. Some individuals may feel that it affects the body’s contouring and creates an uneven texture on the skin.
Many products claim to reduce the appearance of cellulite, typically available as creams or lotions. However, these products often require long-term use and may not consistently deliver the promised results.
