Therapy for COVID-19
Here's what we know thus far about COVID-19: It enters the respiratory system and causes acute respiratory distress due to consequences ranging from lung mechanical failure to blood clots[2].
What we know about hyperbaric oxygen therapy[1] is that it oxygenates the blood, which aids in the inhibition of pulmonary inflammation, the suppression of respiratory secretions, and the prevention of coagulation or the formation of blood clots.
Looking at the novel coronavirus, it appears to be an obvious conclusion that HBOT would be beneficial in treating this disease, which appears to be receiving attention based on recent studies[3] and clinical peer discussion[4]. From NYU Langone Health to Dr. Caroline Fife of St. Luke's Hospital, hyperbaric oxygen treatment for covid-19 is being researched for its immune system effects.
Keep in mind that HBOT is not a treatment for COVID-19, although it has been shown to significantly improve patients' immunological function.

COVID-19, HBOT, and the Immune System
COVID-19, HBOT, and
the Immune System
Our immune system is critical to our life and wellness because it protects our bodies from germs, viruses, and parasites.
White blood cells are an example of the body's immune response mechanism. White blood cells circulate in the circulation and are always on the lookout for bacteria, viruses, and parasites. When white blood cells discover a target, they start multiplying and sending signals to other cell types to do the same.
Our immune response capacity declines as we age. When your immune system is impaired, viruses such as COVID-19 can infiltrate your body.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy increases immunity by supplying 100% oxygen to the pulmonary system[5], which then circulates oxygenated blood throughout the body. HBOT destroys germs, removes bacteria[6], and boosts white blood cell count]. It has an overall good effect on a person's immune system. "Keep in mind that HBOT is not a treatment for COVID-19, but it has been shown to drastically improve patients' immunological function."

HBOT for Covid-19 and the Potential to Treat Severe
Pneumonia
HBOT for Covid-19 and
the Potential to Treat
Severe Pneumonia
Caroline Fife, M.D. of NYU's Lagone Health speaks about her thoughts on HBOT as a treatment for COVID-19 in an article:
"As a result, HBOT may be an option for severely unwell but not yet intubated patients as a strategy to avoid the need for intubation." There may be a subpopulation of patients who are receiving 6 litres of nasal canula oxygen or 100% NRB yet remain hypoxic. These are the patients who are most likely to require intubation. If patients were given HBOT through the Built in Breathing System (BIBS), which also protects inside attendants from respiratory particles, HBOT might be able to effectively oxygenate the blood and delay or prevent the need for intubation.
All intubated ARDS patients from COVID-19 are currently "bridged" with the ventilator. That is, we are attempting to purchase time by allowing them to tolerate the prolonged hypoxia and lung injury until some healing can take place. Patients who have been intubated will be on the ventilator for around two weeks. HBOT may be used as a "bridge" therapy to get patients past the requirement for intubation. We also believe that HBOT will have an anti- inflammatory impact that is additive."
